"CLELIA", NEBBIOLO, PROVINCIA DI PAVIA, VINO DA TAVOLA, 2004
  Tenuta Maggiore

This comes from Lombardy’s Oltrepo Pavese, literally “other side of the Po River from Pavia”. It is bordered by Piedmont, Liguria and Emilia-Romagna. The area makes some wonderful wines that often don’t get the attention they truly deserve.

The name, "Clelia", on the label is in honor of Grandmother Clelia, who worked in the family vineyards until she died at 98.

Tasting Notes:
This reflects the same elegant, earthy complexity that made its Nebbiolo kin famous in neighboring Piedmont: dark strawberry fruit, interwoven with hints of wet autumn forest, violets, leather and tar.

Review:
“This fine red showcases the varietal character of Nebbolio with deep red fruit and floral violets. Mouth-filling, stylish black fruit adds a whiff of new oak from a year in French barriques, but it's handled well.” Robin Garr's 30 Second Wine Advisor - 9/14/07
