Pini is located in Prepotto, one of the most beautiful places in the
“Colli
Orientali of Fruili” area. Vito Novello bought the property from the
lords
of Prepotto, and the counts Rieppi in 1968, and ran the farm until
handing
it over to his sons in 1977. Today, both sons, Giuseppe and Claudio,
are
deeply involved in the production and marketing of the wines – from
picking
the grapes to hands-on winemaking, bottling, advertising and the final
sales to the European and American markets.
The vineyard,
on the
Prepotto hills, is in an excellent location, high up, with plenty of
southern
exposure. It consists of about 17 acres planted with 24,000 vines,
ranging
in age from 5 to 20 years old. Ronco Dei Pini has a subsidiary company
on the “Collio” (located in Zegla) with 15 acres and about 16,000 vines.
Sleek, dry,
round and
firm in structure, this delightful white tastes of pears and
pineapples,
backed by an interesting undertone of minerals, all lined with a
pleasingly
crisp edge of lemon.
